Swimlane Diagram Maker

A swimlane diagram is a flowchart split into parallel lanes — one per person, role, or department — that shows who does what at each step. FlowSimp lets you sketch one in minutes with shapes, arrows, and lane labels.

    What a swimlane diagram shows

Each lane represents an actor (e.g. Customer, Support, Engineering). Steps flow horizontally and arrows cross lanes when work is handed off. Swimlanes make ownership and bottlenecks obvious in cross-functional processes.

    Build one in FlowSimp

    1. Open the editor in flowchart mode.
    2. Add long rounded rectangles stacked vertically — one per lane. Label them with role names.
    3. Inside each lane, place rectangles for steps and diamonds for decisions.
    4. Use the Connect tool to draw arrows between steps, crossing lanes when work is handed off.
    5. Export the finished swimlane as a PNG.
