How to make a flowchart

A good flowchart turns a fuzzy process into something a stranger can follow. The trick is to plan on paper before you place a single shape.

    1. Pick the process

One process, one flowchart. "How a customer signs up" is a flowchart. "How our company works" is a wall of confusion. Narrow scope wins.

    2. List the steps in plain language

Write each step as a short verb phrase ("Verify email", "Create account"). Don't worry about shapes yet — just get the sequence right.

    3. Mark every decision

Anywhere the path could split, write a yes/no question. Decisions become diamonds; everything else is a rectangle.

    4. Draw it in FlowSimp

Open the editor, drop shapes in order, label each one, and connect with arrows. Keep flow top-to-bottom or left-to-right — pick one and stick with it.

    5. Show it to someone

Hand it to a person who doesn't know the process. If they can read it without you explaining, you're done. If they can't, simplify and try again.
